EduSignal "Next" is Live!
EduSignal is all new - same great data access, now free, and with an entirely new mission

EduSignal underwent a significant pivot recently, shifting the project from a for-profit service designed as a tool for EdTech sales, to a free research resource open to all:
The new EduSignal is a free, public reference platform that makes K-12 school district data accessible to everyone. The platform consolidates publicly available education data — enrollment, demographics, and academic performance — into comprehensive profiles for 13,000+ public school districts across all 50 states and DC.
Every district profile includes an AI-generated plain-English summary, and a suite of research tools makes it easy to explore districts, identify peers, and surface patterns across the data. Built for parents, journalists, researchers, advocates, and anyone who needs to understand America's public schools, EduSignal turns fragmented public datasets into a single, well-designed resource. A REST API, MCP server, and bulk data downloads are also available for developers and researchers who want programmatic access to the data.
What exactly is different from the "old" EduSignal?
The previous iteration of the site operated as a traditional SaaS web app, with various subscription tiers and an AI-powered feature set geared towards EdTech sales reps to aide them in prospecting and pre-sales research. In the new site, all the federal, state, and district K-12 data we collect is now open to anyone for free. If you log in with a free account, you will also get access to some helpful AI-powered research prompts and be able to export datasets of up to 100 districts every day (limited just to keep our hosting costs reasonable). For developers and researchers, for a cost-recovery fee we do now offer API and MCP access in addition to bulk data downloads - get a one-time snapshot of our entire database of 13,000+ districts.
A new addition to the site is our Explore & Insights hub, where you can use natural language search or a detailed set of filters to identify districts by all sorts of shared characteristics or traits. Or you can explore some pre-set filtered lists (e.g. “Large Districts with Low Math/Reading Proficiency") which we'll update periodically. And any logged in user can save districts you discover to customized lists, which also have a handy natural language AI analysis feature.

Why did we make this change?
EduSignal as a SaaS app was always something of a passion project, and while it did gain modest traction with users, it wasn’t quite enough to sustain the costs as previously designed. But the original insight, the core mission - to make complex and sometimes hard to find K-12 district public accountability data more intuittive and easily visible - remains as valid as ever, so we wanted to keep it going in some form.
EduSignal can hopefully now be useful to a wider audience, at lower cost, and persist indefinitely.
We hope you find it helpful in some way!
