Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of edusignal.ai and the EduSignal service (the "Service") operated by EduSignal ("we," "our," or "us").

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.

Description of Service

EduSignal is a free, public reference tool for looking up and comparing K-12 school district data in the United States. We aggregate publicly available education data into a single, accessible interface. Features include:

  • State and district profile data
  • Search and filtering tools (Explore Hub)
  • Saved district lists
  • AI-generated district summaries

Account Registration

To access certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Maintain the security of your password
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

Paid Services and Payment

Free Access

EduSignal provides free access to district profiles, state pages, and the Explore Hub. No account is required to browse public data.

Paid Services

EduSignal offers optional paid services for developers and researchers:

  • API Access: Programmatic access to district data via REST API and MCP server (monthly subscription)
  • Bulk Data Export: One-time purchase of comprehensive district data in CSV/JSON format

Payment Terms

  • API subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly basis
  • Bulk data exports are one-time purchases
  • All fees are non-refundable except as required by law
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days notice

Cancellation

You may cancel your API subscription at any time through your account settings. Access continues until the end of your current billing period.

Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service
  • Scrape, crawl, or automated data collection beyond normal use
  • Share your account credentials with others
  • Resell or redistribute the Service without authorization
  • Use the Service to harass, spam, or harm others
  • Upload malicious code or content

Intellectual Property

Our Content

The Service, including its design, features, and content (excluding public education data), is owned by EduSignal and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our proprietary content without permission.

Public Data

The education data displayed in the Service is sourced from publicly available federal and state databases. We do not claim ownership of this underlying public data.

Your Content

You retain ownership of content you provide (such as saved lists and notes). By providing content, you grant us a license to use it to deliver the Service.

AI Features

AI-Generated Content

EduSignal uses AI to generate plain-English summaries of district data. This content is:

  • Generated for informational purposes only
  • Not a substitute for professional judgment
  • Not guaranteed to be accurate or complete

You are responsible for verifying AI-generated content against the underlying data sources.

Usage Limits

Logged-in users have access to AI features in the Explore Hub with a daily usage limit. We reserve the right to modify these limits.

Data and Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • MERCHANTABILITY
  • FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
  • NON-INFRINGEMENT
  • ACCURACY OR COMPLETENESS OF DATA

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, EDUSIGNAL SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUE
  • LOSS OF DATA
  • BUSINESS INTERRUPTION

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless EduSignal and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights

Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes by posting the updated Terms and updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion.

Upon termination:

  • Your right to use the Service ceases immediately
  • We may delete your account and data
  • Provisions that should survive termination will remain in effect

Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and EduSignal regarding the Service.
